Match 1: Jamaica 5 Trinidad & Tobago 37
Kick off: 6.00 p.m. (7.00 p.m. EST)
Referee: Alasdair Robertson (Cayman Islands)
T&T turned out on an impressive performance to outshine Jamaica 37-5, with playmaker and fly half Juliana Straker scoring a hatrick of tries and Taliah Wilson two tries. T&T took a 15-0 first half lead courtesy of tries from Straker, Sojourner Hyles and Wilson in a half plagued by injuries and stoppages. T&T showed why they entered the tournament as favourites, with their frowards dominating up front in securing possession, enabling their backs to run freely. In the second half two tries from Wilson and Dalia Jordon Brown put T&T into a comfortable 25-0 lead. Jamaica pulled a try back though rignt wing Misty Stewart only for T&T to quickly re-take control of the match and score three more tries through Straker (twice) and Merlin Blackford. In the final match for the Caribbean Championship, Cayman will have to play at their very best to prevent T&T from regaining their Caribbean crown in the Friday night showdown.
Match 2: Cayman 27 Caribbean Selects 12
Kick off: 8.00 p.m. (9.00 p.m. EST)
Referee: Larry Mendez (Trinidad & Tobago)
In the second match of th evening, the Caribbean Select rebounded from their heavy first round defeat against T&T to put in a gutsy performance against the reigning Caribbean Champions. Though eventually losing 27-12, they showed great strength of character with a never say die attitude, some good rucking and great one on one tackling. Cayman however were too well organised and experienced and opened the scoring through a Loletta Hanna try. No. 8 Melissa Da Ponte scored the first try of the tournament for the selects after sustained pressure in the Cayman 22 metres. Captain Karen Holmes converted to give the selects a 7-5 lead which they held to just before half time when Fiona Brader scored for Cayman to give the home side a 10-7 half time lead. Brader scored her second of the match to take Cayman into a 15-7 early second half lead. Hanna scored her second, followed by tries from No. 8 Jesse Lane and katie Bayes to give Cayman a 27-7 lead. Second row Anna Knapton-Scott then pulled a try back for the Selects to leave the Selects morale high at the end of the match, though losing 27-12 to Cayman. Cayman now face their toughest challenge of the tournament on Friday, when they meet T&T, while the Selects will be looking to improve on this performance in their final match against Jamaica on Thursday evening.
